On 4 June 2026, we had the honour of attending the “Women of Europe Award 2026” ceremony at the European Commission in Berlin – an event that celebrates the role of women in building a united, democratic and inclusive Europe. With its long-standing tradition, this award honours women whose contributions often take place quietly, yet have a profound and lasting impact on European society. This year’s award recipients, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Abels and Ina Rumiantseva, demonstrate through their work that Europe is far more than a geographical concept – it is a living network of people, values and shared responsibility. The message of unity and European values was conveyed not only through the speeches, but also through the symbolism of the award itself – the brooch as a sign of recognition and of belonging to a community that shares common values while being enriched by its diversity. We left the event feeling inspired and motivated, with a clear sense that Europe’s future depends greatly on the strength, voice and leadership of women – a cause that we, as a community of Macedonian women, also actively support.
