Macedonian Language Day – Our Language, Our Identity

On 5 May 2026, Macedonian Language Day was commemorated with dignity at the Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia in Berlin through a carefully designed panel discussion dedicated to preserving, nurturing and further developing our mother tongue in today’s social context. 🇲🇰 The discussion was moderated by Ms Rumena Nestorovska, First Secretary at the Embassy, who gave the event a clear structure through her precision and excellent sense of the flow of the conversation. As part of the discussion, Dr Irena Bojarovska, Vice President of ZemaF – Centre of Macedonian Women e.V., delivered a presentation. Her continuous commitment to promoting the Macedonian language, culture and community life in the diaspora represents a recognised and significant contribution. Her approach, marked by dedication and foresight, added further depth to the discussion and opened valuable perspectives for future initiatives. The participants discussed the complexity of preserving the mother tongue in a multicultural environment, with a particular focus on younger generations, as well as the responsibility of adults as carriers of linguistic and cultural continuity. It was emphasised that a language is not preserved solely through formal structures, but above all through its conscious and continuous use in everyday life – within the family, the community and cultural expression. This event once again confirmed the essential role of the Macedonian language as a foundation of identity, a living connection to our roots and a bridge between generations. As an association, we remain committed to our mission of actively contributing to the preservation and further development of the Macedonian language – as a value that is passed on, nurtured and lived. ❤️
